Guidance for Creating Generic Names for Confidential Chemical Substance Identity Reporting under TSCA

On this page you will find guidance for creating generic names for chemical substances whose specific chemical identities are claimed as confidential in Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) notices. This guidance will allow EPA to share more information with the public about the structure of chemical substances while protecting the confidential elements of the substance’s specific chemical identity. TSCA submitters claiming the specific chemical identity of a chemical substance as confidential business information are required to supply a structurally descriptive generic name that can be disclosed to the public.

Read the Federal Register notice announcing the availability of this guidance.

This guidance is a living document which may be revised periodically. Comments can be submitted on or before August 27, 2018 to docket EPA-HQ-OPPT-2018-0292 on www.regulations.gov. After that point, submit input to tscainventory@epa.gov.
